The Health Committee of the Egyptian House of Representatives is preparing to discuss a draft law from the government on the establishment of the “Egyptian Drug Authority.”
The new entity will specialise in all medicine-related issues, from pricing to shortages to registering new drugs.
Similarly to Europe’s European Medicine Agency or the Food and Drug Association in the USA, the Egyptian body will act independently of the country’s Ministry of Health.
The presence of the Egyptian Drug Authority will help control the country’s drug market, which, without this level of regulation has numerous problems and safety concerns — including a market infiltrated by fake drugs.
The Secretary of the Health Committee in the House of Representatives declared that commission will be collected from pharmaceutical companies and the bodies seeking to register medicines rather than the cost of registration coming from the state budget.
